Do You Regularly Acknowledge & Celebrate How Great You Are?

Everyone loves an excuse to get together with friends and family to celebrate something! There are all kinds of “Just Because” parties, such as: hurricane parties, game night parties, unbirthday parties, potluck parties, and the like. Many times, these types of parties are an excuse to just have fun and unwind, create a diversion, offer a support strategy, or are even a good reason to drink adult beverages and eat chicken wings. But wait, do we really need an excuse like that to drink adult beverages and eat chicken wings? Nevertheless, we all love a great party to celebrate life’s milestones—birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, etc. But, do you regularly celebrate and acknowledge your internal milestones?

The Importance of Self-Celebration

It’s something to think about when most of us do not think much about congratulating ourselves. Many of us tend to dwell on the negative aspects of our lives, often criticizing ourselves for our perceived failures, instead of focusing on the positive and seeing our glass as half full. If you remember the movie Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, there was one scene where Richard’s character tells Julia’s character how wonderful and smart, he thinks she is. She doesn’t warmly respond to his compliments as she says, “The bad stuff is always easier to believe.” This is so true—many of us are haunted each day by negativity and limiting beliefs! But what about all the good stuff you do, you are, and you achieve daily? You should celebrate and acknowledge these things, too, because they are your personal or internal milestones!

Embrace Your Uniqueness

Love yourself, love who you are, and love your uniqueness, assets, flaws, achievements, and talents. Just remember, there is no one else on this earth like you, no one can offer exactly what you have to offer, no one else can make a difference in the same way you can! Each of us has goals and dreams, but so many of us succumb to fear and those limiting beliefs, which prohibit us from moving forward with them. Write those goals and dreams down to make them real, visualize and feel them as if they have already happened, develop an action plan, and then take action. Celebrate what you have achieved no matter how small it is! If you arrived at your destination, but it took a little longer than you had anticipated—so what! The most important thing is that you got there! I like to think of the children’s stories, “The Tortoise and the Hare” and “The Little Engine That Could” for inspiration.

Take Care of Yourself

It is very noble and necessary to help others; however, you still need to take care of yourself in every way! It is so vital to your self-worth, growth, and self-esteem! So many of us forget that, but don’t you! If you want to celebrate an achievement, go out with friends and make a night of it, buy yourself a cake or flowers or both, get a massage or mani/pedi (you get the picture)…or just pat yourself on the back, and exclaim to yourself, “Good job! You’re pretty terrific!” because you are!
